In the video above, Assistant Director of Municipal Collaboration Amy Reilly discusses MAPC’s Homeland Security Division.

MAPC serves as Massachusetts’ Homeland Security fiduciary, distributing Federal Department of Homeland Security grants received by the Massachusetts Executive Office of Public Safety and Security to partners throughout the state. MAPC’s team manages grants given to four regional Homeland Security Councils and provides planning, procurement, budgeting, reporting, administrative, project development, and contractor, vendor and project management services that help make the Commonwealth a safer place to live and work.

The Central Region Homeland Security Advisory Council, Southeast Regional Homeland Security Advisory Council, Western Region Homeland Security Advisory Council, and Northeast Homeland Security Regional Advisory Council were created by the Massachusetts Executive Office of Public Safety and Security  in 2004 to serve as policy making bodies for homeland security preparedness in their regions. The councils are comprised of volunteers with expertise in 11 public safety fields, including law enforcement, fire service, emergency management, public health, and emergency medical services.

In addition to acting as fiduciary for all four councils, MAPC is the program manager for the Northeast Homeland Security Regional Advisory Council (NERAC). MAPC manages projects on behalf of NERAC that serve to enhance municipal emergency preparedness capabilities, including training, crisis information management, purchasing emergency response equipment, and infrastructure enhancement.

Recently, NERAC and the Northeastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council released the second edition of a school threat assessment toolkit, which gives schools a comprehensive resource for school crisis management and response. Check it out here.
